What make the Pink Sand Beach Pink?
Foraminifera, microscopic coral insects that live on the underside of reefs such as Devil’s Backbone, are responsible for the pink color off the sand. When these animals die their bright pink and red shells are broken up by the ocean waves and wash up on shore to mix with the sand.
