The Lone Tree, Harbour Island Bahamas
The Lone Tree in Harbour Island is a bit of a mystery. In fact, the only thing we know for sure about this fascinating Harbour Island landmark is that it appeared sometime during hurricane Andrew in 1992. This large piece of driftwood that stands tall above the pink sands beach is located at the end of Bay Street at Girl’s Beach. How it arrived at this location is also debatable. Some say it was blown over from another island, others will tell you it slid down from a hill.
In spite of how it got there, the Lone Tree has become one of the most iconic Harbour Island landmarks.
Curiously enough, the tree arrived upright and during high tides, it even moves around a bit.
Everyone seems to be in agreement that the tree arrived in its unusual position at Girls Bank during Hurricane Andrew in 1992. However, there are many versions on how this tree actually got there.
